Pregnancy essentials; useful products to ease your journey & feel your best
Feb 02, 2024We explored all the essential items I found extremely useful during postpartum and for breastfeeding. So in this post I want to bring you all my tips and tools that are going to help you in your pregnancy.
1. Pregnancy pillow
I loved using this U-shaped pillow because it supported my back and prevented me from rolling to my back. Yes, it is quite big, but somehow we managed with my hubby to stay in teh same bed for the whole pregnancy!
During pregnancy the baby requires certain salts which it gets at the expense of the mother. This programme corrects maternal salt deficiencies and helps the baby with necessary salts.Tissue salts are minerals that were first used in homeopathic medicine by Dr. Wilhelm Schuessler in the 19th century. They’re formulated to support your body’s health and healing process by regulating your cell’s mineral levels.
3. Prenatal supplements
It is always good to enhance your nutritional intake with good quality supplements. I love the Synergy company PureNatal as it is literally the most natural supplement you can find on the market. A more budget friendly supplement is the Wild Nutrition one which is also really good and more food based than others. In addition to that, supplementing with omega 3 is absolutely necessary for better brain development of the fetus. Bare biology has by far the best omega 3 supplement on the market so I wouldn't recommend anything else. If you want to order your supplements from the natural dispensary you can add my name Eleni Chatzipavli as the practitioner to create your account.
I had a very itchy bump during my pregnancy and these spray was just divine! It felt very soothing and moisturising and for sure brought relief to my itchy bump!
5. A rebozo/scarf
I used a scarf to wrap around my hips when I felt like my joints got a bit unstable. It offered great support while I was doing my daily 40'-60' walk (during the pandemic there was nothing else to do!). You simply get a long piece of fabric and wrap it around your hips, right below the belly. It will most probably cover the upper part of your buttocks. This is absolutely safe and has been done for centuries to bring comfort to the changing pregnant body.
5. Pure coconut oil
To moisturise my belly and reduce the chances of stretch marks I used plain coconut oil. There are so mnay products and creams on the market but personally I want the purest substance on my skin so I prefer to use plain fat which is actually what the skin needs. If you don't want to feel oily after the application you can put the oil and then rinse it off with warm water. The fat will stay on your skin but in a way that doesn't feel too oily. I used pure coconut oil. You could use ghee as well or any other plan oil such as almond, jojoba or sesame!
6. Maternity leggings
I loved the ones by Love leggings. I wore these a lot! They are made of just cotton- I didn't want any synthetic materials near my yoni and bump- that is why I opted for these ones. I also love everything by Pact and their leggings are also cotton and have a great fit.
This spray is great to rub on areas of your body that feel tight or sore. It is especially great for cramps! If you are getting cramps it is likely that your body is low in magnesium and so apart from ensuring you are getting enough from your diet, as well as potentially supplementing, this spray is an easy way to target the specific muscles that tend to cramp. I used it a lot around my neck for tension headaches as well as my calf muscles that decided to cramp in the middle of the night.
The invisible toxin, Electro Magnetic Frequencies, is very harmful one and very prevalent in our electronic heavy world. I used this whenever I was working on my laptop and when I travelled. I also wore it whenever I was carrying my phone around. The best way to protect yourself from EMFs is to increase the distance from the source. So stay at least 2 meters away from your WIFI and put your phone on airplane mode as much as you can.
This is my home birth playlist. I love every single song of this playlist and it just bring me to a sense of equilibrium. I was listening to it whenever I was in a calm state, practicing pregnancy yoga or sat relaxed and read a book. This helped me to create associations of being calm and relaxed when I was listening to these songs.
10. Birthing ball
This ball is an essential for every pregnant and birthing woman. It serves nicely as a chair in which you can move around. It is also an excellent assistant during birth! And when you want to soothe your baby later on. But please remember; you hips always need to be over your knees. So if you hips are lower thna your knees make sure you add more air to the ball.
